Unknown Country - Broderick Smith Production: Matt Engineering: Dave
Recorded at the 8-Track Shack. This album is heavy. As anyone familiar with Broderick’s work would know, the lyrical content is deep, sophisticated, diabolical, poignant and from the heart. The challenge in producing such a fine artist is ensuring the album brings the words to life. It’s all about the song. I must admit that I drew a lot of inspiration from the albums Johnny Cash recorded with Rick Rubin. But having said that, I feel this album took on a life of its own. We followed our gut feelings as we headed into…Unknown Country.

Pendulum - Liz Stringer Production: Matt
Liz wanted these songs to be played by a band as a contrast to her previous work which was more stripped back. I decided as a starting point, that I would like to hear the songs just played by her, so I invited her up to the studio and recorded her on her own, and this is how I came to know the songs. It didn’t take more than a moment to realise that Liz could write a song, and was also one hell of a musician! From here we had some rehearsals and then onto recording the album at 30 Mill Studio’s in Brunswick.

Crystal Thomas and the Flowers of Evil Production: Matt Engineering: Dave
Sometimes when I hear rough demo’s from artists, I just get hooked in. That’s what happened when I heard Crystal’s home recordings, and from there we worked on the songs and arrangements. Recorded at the 8-Track Shack in any spare time either of us had, the album felt like a real triumph for both of us. It’s also worth mentioning that Dave and I had the pleasure of mixing the album in Jim Mogine’s (Midnight Oil) home studio in Sydney. Thanks Jim!

Matt Walker & Ashley Davies - Self-titled Production: Matt with Ashley Davies
This was an exciting record for me and Ashley to make. After a few years had snuck by, we got ourselves organized and cut some new tracks at Sing Sing with Laurence Maddy on the desk. Laurence recorded our first album, ‘I Listen to the Night’ and it was a cool to work with him again. Ash and I know how the duo needs to sound when recorded, and so does Laurence. We have some recording techniques that make the acoustic guitar sound huge, while retaining a natural sound and this is highlighted on this album.

Navigational Skills - Matt Walker and the Necessary Few Production: Matt
The first album on my own label… I was now independent and everything was new and somewhat unknown. This collection of songs really needed a classic rhythm section so I recruited Grant Cummerford and Roger Bergodaz. Chris Thompson was called upon again, after doing a great job engineering the Soul Witness album. It was also the first time I had started to utilize the 8-Track Shack in my recorded releases, as half of it was recorded there.
